ASLM2026

The African Society for Laboratory Medicine (ASLM) is pleased to announce the appointment of the Scientific Co‑Chairs for the ASLM 2026 Biennial Conference, reinforcing the Society’s commitment to delivering a high‑quality, credible, and forward‑looking scientific programme.

The ASLM 2026 scientific programme will be co‑led by Prof. Isabella Oyier and Prof. Sikhulile Moyo, two highly respected leaders in laboratory science and health research across Africa. Together, they will provide strategic oversight to ensure the programme reflects the conference theme:
“Integrated Diagnostics for Health Security: Investing in Sustainable Impact.”

Leadership Grounded in Scientific Excellence

Prof. Isabella Oyier, based in Kenya, serves as Head of Biosciences at the KEMRI‑Wellcome Trust Research Programme. With extensive experience in biomedical research and scientific leadership, Prof. Oyier brings deep expertise in advancing laboratory sciences and research capacity within integrated health systems.

Prof. Sikhulile Moyo, based in Botswana, is Laboratory Director and Research Associate at the Botswana‑Harvard Health Partnership (BHP). Prof. Moyo is widely recognized for leadership in laboratory systems, pathogen genomics, and research‑driven public health solutions that strengthen health security.

Guiding a Pan‑African Scientific Programme

As Scientific Co‑Chairs, Prof. Oyier and Prof. Moyo will work closely with ASLM’s scientific committees to:

  • Provide strategic direction for the conference scientific tracks
  • Oversee the abstract review and selection process
  • Ensure scientific rigour, relevance, and alignment with health security priorities
  • Support the integration of emerging evidence, innovation, and policy dialogue

The scientific programme framework already under development highlights key areas including integrated diagnostics, antimicrobial resistance, pathogen genomics, digital health, workforce development, and sustainable laboratory systems, aligned with Africa’s evolving health security needs.

Advancing Health Security Through Science

With their combined expertise, the Scientific Co‑Chairs will help ensure that ASLM 2026 serves as a leading platform for evidence‑based dialogue, collaboration, and innovation across the diagnostics and laboratory medicine ecosystem.

Further details regarding programme highlights, abstract submissions, and featured scientific sessions will be published on the ASLM 2026 Programme page as preparations continue.
